Air fryers, kettles, blenders, toasters and coffee makers go on sale often. That makes waiting a good strategy for many kitchen purchases, though not for all of them. This guide helps you decide when to wait, when to buy now, and how to avoid buying something that ends up unused at the back of a cupboard.

Wait when you can

If your old appliance still works and you are only upgrading, there is no hurry. Small appliances are commonly discounted around big sale events, at the turn of the season and when stores clear space for new models. A few weeks of patience can save a meaningful amount.

Pick the model you want, note the current price, and set a target. If it reaches your number, you buy. If not, you have lost nothing.

Buy now when you must

If your kettle has died and you drink tea every morning, waiting a month is not realistic. In that case, compare a few stores, choose a sensible option and move on. Do not let the hunt for the perfect price cost you more in inconvenience than you would save.

Also buy now if the price is already near the lowest you have seen.

Think about how often you will use it

A modest appliance you use every day is a better buy than an expensive one that sits in a cupboard. Be honest about your habits. Many fancy gadgets are used a handful of times and then forgotten.

Ask yourself what it replaces. If you already own something that does the job, a new one may not be needed.

Check size, space and power

Measure the counter and the cupboard where it will live. Many returns happen because an appliance turned out bigger than expected. Also think about noise, cleaning and how easy the parts are to wash, since a hard-to-clean appliance gets used less.

Read the warranty and reviews

For a device you will use daily, a longer warranty can be worth a little extra. Read reviews from people who have used it for months, not only the first week, as problems often appear later.

Look for patterns. If many reviewers mention the same fault, take it seriously.

Compare accessories and refills

Some appliances need filters, pods or special parts. The cheap machine can turn out expensive to run. Check the cost of refills before you commit.
